Major in Applied Cultural Studies - Cultural Management
For more than two decades, the Section of Early Modern History has organized and administered the certified study focus "Cultural Management - Applied Cultural Studies", which allows students of all disciplines of the Faculty of Humanities to acquire a practice-oriented additional qualification.
All BA History students must complete 50% from other subjects (e.g. Ethnology, Art History, Archaeology, Classical Studies etc.) in order to obtain the certificate.
About the cultural management major
Working in the cultural sector requires a broad range of knowledge, from marketing strategies for tourism and event management to object theory. The theoretical and applied examination of basic questions of cultural institutions that have taken on the social mission of collecting, preserving, researching and presenting is of fundamental importance both from a theoretical-methodological and historical perspective and - applied - from the requirements of the present.
From museums to publishing, the certified specialization provides students with an insight into the fundamentals of current cultural enterprises. The certified specialization is therefore aimed at all those who want to deal with questions of the implementation of preservation and presentation in a structured way and deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of applied cultural studies. Through the interdisciplinary approach of bringing together BA graduates from a wide range of subjects and channeling divergent prerequisites and both scientific and applied subjects into a new professional profile, the university is responding to the need of students for practical relevance and professional training as well as to the needs of society. With the attractiveness of the courses on offer and the versatility of graduates in various cultural and tourism initiatives, we are looking for answers to the current cultural-political situation and the changing leisure behavior of the population. By selecting lecturers from the private sector, we create a network with the labor market. Cooperation with locations outside of Austria (Nantes, Brno, etc.) ensures internationalization.
