Gero Roedern

Roedern, Gero, MA, BA

Gero Roedern is a historian and a doctoral fellow of the Gerda Henkel Foundation at the Department of Cultural and Gender History since March 2023. Previously, he studied German and History at the University of Greifswald, was a project assistant at the Center for Cultural Studies at the University of Graz from 2019 to 2023, and a member of the 5th Doctoral Cycle of the International PhDnet "Literary and Cultural Studies" from 2020 to 2023.

His current research interests are in the field of military and cultural history as well as self-testimony research. In his binational dissertation project with the working title "Briefe aus dem Reichsarbeitsdienst: Zwischen Zurichtung und Zuhause" he combines approaches from historical and cultural studies. In his research project, he examines both the ideologization and 'formation' of four young Catholics in the National Socialist Reichsarbeitsdienst during World War II and the strong-willed potential of their writing.
