About Us
The Institute of History is one of the largest institutes within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Graz. With currently around 1,400 students, it is the second largest institute for history in Austria. Our research activities are characterised by a close relationship with the neighbouring countries in Southeastern Europe and a broad, internationally connected range of subject areas.
The Institute of History has grown steadily over the last couple of centuries, which is why our institute’s workplaces are located in three different buildings across the university campus in Geidorf, Graz, all within less than five minutes' walk from each other: Heinrichstraße 26 (2nd and 3rd floor: Austrian history, medieval history, teaching methodology, 4th floor: subject-specific library), Attemsgasse 8 (early modern period, economic and social history, contemporary history), and Mozartgasse 3 (north wing: History of Southeastern Europe).
